Dr Jennifer Hacker Pearson, PhD – 50 Shades of Motherhood – How to Train Your Brain to Thrive Amongst Them All

Mother of 3, researcher, neuroscientist, The Mother Mentor*, author, speaker
and creator of Tough Mothers

Jen’s mission is simple: To prepare and support women to thrive as they transition into, and through, motherhood.

Jen’s fascination with the brain started decades ago which is why she pursued a PhD in neuroscience** and a degree in psychotherapy. She has always had an admiration for neuroplasticity: the brain’s ability to modify, change and adapt itself, in both structure and function, during life and as a result of experiences.

While, as a neuroscientist she has been in awe of this phenomenon for a long time, it wasn’t until she had her children that she realised self-directed neuroplasticity is an imperative skill to develop before, and during, motherhood. But she found that out the hard way!

After she had her third baby she developed anxiety so consuming it ruled her life.
And so began her journey to contentment in motherhood, by changing her brain and changing her life.

Bronwyn Bennett – 5 Steps to Creating a Healthier Home for a Healthier Family

Bronwyn Bennett is the director of Creating Healthy Spaces. She draws on her life experiences of raising 3 boys, her studies of natural medicine, and Building Biology to give her clients a comprehensive insight on how lifestyle and environmental factors are all fundamentally connected to our health and wellbeing, including mind, body and spirit.

In 1992, Bronwyn contracted Cerebral Malaria which almost took her life. It took her over 2 years to recover to full health with the significant help from naturopathy alongside herbal and nutritional supplements, yoga, juicing and rest. Seeing the improvement in health with natural medicine, Bronwyn studied naturopathy and relocated to London UK, where her passion for herbs, homeopathy, and indian head massage grew as she raised two small boys with her husband Russ.

In 2003, they relocated their young family to Melbourne. Tragically in 2004, their second born son Harry died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 3. This traumatic life changing experience of loss causes a person to ask the big questions in life, how does anyone recover from this type of loss? To honour her young sons life, Bronwyn is driven to make a difference to others, and give back however she can to the community. After all it takes a village to raise a child.

With food intolerances in her family, Bronwyn has adopted “The Fed up Diet”, by Sue Dengate, removing all artificial colours and preservatives as well as the GAPS diet to heal her son’s gut.

As a building biologist, Bronwyn loves to educate and empower people to protect the next generation from factors that are detrimental to our health and to provide alternatives and solutions. Bronwyn believes that small changes can make a lasting difference to their health and ultimately, their lives.

Part Two – Q&A

Dawn loves working with women through conception, pregnancy and beyond; and in the area of infant and toddler health. She finds that her Lactation Consultant training and her Naturopathic training and experience combine well to serve parents through these life chapters.

Dawn works with people using a practical approach and by adapting treatment to individual needs. She appreciates the profound impact that food and lifestyle medicine can have, and finds it a privilege to work with people to bring these changes into their lives.

Dawn draws on herbal medicine and nutritional supplements as aids for restoring balance and she seeks to uncover and address the underlying factors that challenge health, rather than just addressing the symptoms that present.

Dawn has a broad base of clinical experience and has been in practice since 2002. She also enjoys working in the area of thyroid health, women’s reproductory health, and infant and toddler gastrointestinal issues and allergy.

Dawn regularly publishes papers in peer-reviewed literature and presents at international conferences.

After completing her Bachelor degree in 2002, Dawn went on to obtain First Class Honours for the clinical research she undertook in the area of Herb-Drug interactions. She has published in this area and looked more deeply into Herb-Drug interactions pertinent to cardiovascular medicine.

Dawn was recently awarded a prestigious Fellowship by the National Herbalist Association of Australia for her contribution to the field of herbal medicine in Australia.

Dawn has some wonderful courses available at Probiotic Advisor, including Introducing Complementary Foods to Infants, and Infantile Colic and “Reflux” Unpacked
