How to make your own probiotic drink

Ever wanted to know how to make your own probiotic drink for gut health? Water kefir is a little known cousin of Kombucha, and both are great for improving gut health and helping heal eczema and allergies.

If you’re not a fan of sauerkraut, I get it! It is an acquired taste.

However, water kefir is delicious, and it will give you wonderful beneficial bacteria that can help improve your gut health. Impaired gut health is not only linked with digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), constipation, tummy cramps, but it is also linked with so many other health conditions. These include eczema, allergies, asthma, Parkinson’s Disease, autoimmune conditions, depression, anxiety, and more.

These conditions can arise when there is a reduced diversity of beneficial bacteria and less beneficial bacteria in your gut, with more potentially harmful bacteria or parasites contributing to this imbalance.

There are many other factors that can negatively affect gut health. These include (but not limited to):

  • use of antibiotics
  • use of reflux medications
  • use of NSAID’s
  • high stress levels
  • eating processed foods
  • consuming food additives such as preservatives and emulsifiers
  • lack of fibre in the diet…

But the good news is, there’s a delicious way to help improve your gut health. Water kefir! It’s fun to make, refreshing to enjoy, and you can make your own flavours with fruit juice or fresh/dried fruit.

For those of you who love soft drink, Water kefir is a FANTASTIC replacement in so many ways.

My favourite flavours have been passionfruit, raspberry, and orange.
